Safeguarding

The Radcliffe School takes Safeguarding seriously. All staff are trained in safeguarding and Child Protection and a significant number of staff are trained as Safeguarding Leads. We work closer with the Local Authority and a range of external agencies. The School follows the Statutory Guidance document from the DfE Keeping Children Safe in Education Sept 2022.

At The Radcliffe School:

  • All Staff are aware that they must not promise to keep ‘secrets’ with children and that if children disclose abuse, this must be passed on to the Designated Safeguarding Leads as soon as possible and the child should be told who their disclosure will be shared with.

  • Staff will be informed of relevant information in respect of individual cases regarding child protection on a ‘need to know basis’ only.

  • If a child has made a disclosure, the member of staff/volunteer will:

    • Make a record of the date, time and place of the conversation, as soon as possible. Record the child’s own words, along with any observations on what has been seen and any noticeable non-verbal behaviour.

    • Not destroy the original notes in case they are needed by a court.

    • Record factual statements and observations rather than interpretations or assumptions.

    • Inform the Safeguarding Lead or Deputy immediately.

The Referral Process

The Radcliffe School has a clear referral process within school through the House Teams. Where these are concerns, they are then referred to the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Officer, Claire Jones, or to the Designated Safeguarding Officer, Paula Lawson.

Where appropriate the concern is then referred to Children’s Services through a Multi Agency Referral Form (MARF).

Where a concern is raised and staff are unable to use the school process, then they are able to refer directly to Children’s Services.

Any concerns, are also logged on CPOMS, a secure market leading software application. CPOMS allows us to monitor and analyse issues and patterns across a range of child protection, safeguarding, pastoral and welfare issues. This allows us to track progress on concerns and follow up on any issues. All concerns raised on CPOMS are automatically notified to the DSO and Deputy DSO.
