KS3

The Key Stage 3 Curriculum

Students in Years 7 and 8 will learn to explore and develop ideas for artwork from a range of starting points. They will investigate different ways of making art through the use of various materials, both two-dimensional and three-dimensional. Students will acquire new knowledge of artists, both historical and contemporary and develop their understanding of art from other cultures.

Key assessments will take place throughout the units of work and students will be assessed on the artwork that they produce, being awarded a national curriculum level for each unit that is completed. Students will also be assessed on their oral contribution during class discussion and through their written analysis and evaluations of their own and others work.

The broad and balanced art curriculum will be taught through a variety of methods such as the delivery of presentations, both individually and in groups, researching artists and art from other cultures, through practical teacher or student led demonstrations, through practical work, discussions and written work.
