Welcome to the Radcliffe School Art Department
The Art and Design department at The Radcliffe aims to provide a wide variety of creative and expressive experiences within a framework that is flexible, balanced and meaningful to the individual student. It aims to stimulate curiosity about the visual world and to develop an enquiring mind. Staffing in the department currently consists of three full-time teachers and a technician. We offer a broad range of specialist skills, from Ceramics and Sculpture to Fine Art and Textiles.
Our facilities include 4 purpose built art rooms and a specialist ICT suite. The rooms are shared by all Key Stages and students are actively encouraged to use the department during lunchtimes and after school.
Through our curriculum we aim to encourage students to explore visual and tactile experiences in order to communicate ideas and meanings. They will work with traditional and new media to develop their confidence, imagination and creativity. They will learn to appreciate images and artifacts, both historical and cultural and to understand why they were made. In art, students will reflect critically on their own and other people’s work. They will learn to think and act as artists, craftspeople and designers, working creatively and independently. They will develop an appreciation of art, craft and design, and its role in the creative industries.
We have worked hard as a team to create a relaxed but industrious and creative environment, where all students feel valued as individuals and where they can express themselves openly through art.
We are proud of the high standard of work produced by students, whilst working in our department.
